Agoraphobia Rocks!
Today we had our first public melt down at Baby Gap. Sofia began getting fussy just when i had hit the clearance jack pot. I calmly asked the sales clerk for a dressing room so I could feed my darling child. By the time we had our dressing room we were in full hysterics. I tried feeding her with every known source i had available. I tried diapering, passifyer....it looked like the diaper bag had exploded all over the dressing room. Nothing helped. After about 5 minutes I decided they probably did not want to hear it anymore so I threw my goodies on the counter and told her i would be back. We then continued to flip out all through the mall (thank god for outdoor malls) then continued into JC Penny where I desperatly tried to find a bathroom with hot water so I could heat up the bottle (maybe it was too cold? hell I dont know!). No such luck. So after about 30 minutes of complete chaos, I actually went back to Gap, paid for my crap and left the mall.
For good I think.
By the time we got to the car she was completely passed out. Apparently completely losing it is exhausting. Sofia slept the entire rest of the day. Well, she woke up to eat....then went back to bed.....with June.
That is the last time I ever leave the house.

The making of a surfer girl
The Feline factor
As you all know, the kitties (Henry and June) run this family so we thought we would give them a shout out. They LOVE Fia. Especially June. she is way maternal and freaks whenever the baby cries. If she can, she will lick Fia's head while she is upset. It is really sweet. June also watches Fia when we are doing stuff around the house and she is sleeping. June will sit right next to wherever she is and just watch her. As you have seen, bath time is also a favorite of everyone as is nap time. All are family affairs. We are also not really sure who the play mat actually belongs to. Call it the first show of 'sibling rivalry'.

Furry bath-time supervisors
Bath-time is an all family event. We even get some furry supervisors that do not seem to trust our parenting or life guarding skills. We don’t think that they would actually be willing to get wet if Fia needed help, but they always watch our every move during bath time just in case. Or maybe they are worried that they will be next and want to find out what she did to receive this cruel punishment!
The last picture with the scowl is an indicator of how much Fia dislikes bath time but it is slowly growing on her. Mom usually gets in the tub with her and she likes that much more than the solo bath.

AV Club
As a new dad I had no idea how much responsibility was going to fall upon my shoulders. I have become a one man AV club. Pictures with two new cameras (a 35mm digital SLR and a Cannon digital point and shoot), and video with a new video camera. Documenting important baby events and getting these pictures to friends and family has been a great responsibility and a great joy. Jenna takes her share of pictures and is much better at it than I am but she quickly changes her priority when baby cries or fusses. I am the only one that can uphold my duty to document baby events even through baby's cries and fusses. It is a tough but rewarding job.
Leave the house?

Aunt Megan
Jenna's sister, Megan was in town for a few days from Portland. She was a huge help. We didn't know how much help we needed! Sofia and her Aunt are now BFF. She seemed to really respond to Megan's crazy songs. They were a nice mixture of nutty camp songs and her 'own version' of tv commercials. We have discovered the magic left with Meg. We sound like the totally lame parents who 'just don't get it' when we sing them. oh well. We try....

Sleep when you can
As new parents we were so proud the first few days when Sofia would sleep for 3 or 4 hours at a time during the day. We used this time to get things done. We learned our lesson later those nights when Sofia fed more, sleept 1 or 2 hours at a time and was awake longer inbetween . We now sleep when she sleeps. This means that we usually nap with her in the afternoon.
